Sometimes God takes you on an unexpected journey that completely transforms your understanding of discipleship. That's what happened to me over the past two years as I spent time with leaders of the underground church in Iran. What I discovered there has revolutionized how I see Jesus' instructions for reaching the nations.

Let me share something that stopped me in my tracks. One of the Iranian leaders asked me, "If the Great Commission matters so much to Jesus, do you really think he would have left it up to us to work out how to go about it?"

That question led me on a journey that would ultimately become my new book, "The Forgotten Manifesto of Jesus." But this isn't just another book about church growth or discipleship strategies. This is about rediscovering Jesus' clear instructions for reaching the nations - instructions that are producing extraordinary results in one of the most restrictive Islamic nations on earth.

The Iranian Miracle

Here's what fascinates me: while many Western churches struggle to see conversion growth, the Iranian church is experiencing unprecedented multiplication. And their "secret"? Simple obedience to Jesus' instructions in Matthew 10 and Luke 10.

When I asked these leaders to reveal the catalyst behind their extraordinary growth, their answer was disarmingly simple: "We just do what Jesus told us to do." No complex strategies. No expensive programs. Just straightforward obedience to Jesus' forgotten manifesto.

From Theory to Movement

What began with a handful of believers taking Jesus' words seriously has exploded into a massive gospel movement. It's spreading not just across Iran, but into Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and other seemingly impenetrable regions. Even more remarkably, this movement is beginning to impact unchurched areas in the West.

The implications are profound. If these principles work in Iran - under one of the most restrictive Islamic regimes in the world - imagine what could happen if we applied them in our contexts.
